Use Question tags with be

  • to check information

or

  • to find out if the person we are speaking to agrees with us on something.


  • If the verb in the sentence is positive, the verb in the question tag is negative.

  • If the verb in the sentence is negative, the verb in the question tag is positive.

  • Put a comma before the question tag and use contractions with a negative form of be.

  1. Youre from Ankara, aren’t you?

  2. Its lovely weather, isn’t it?

  3. Its cold, isn’t it?     True

Its cold, isnot it?    False    

Positive:

I’m / I am                            , aren’t I?

You’re / You are                , aren’t you?

She’s / She is                     , isn’t she?

He’s / He is                         , isn’t he?

It’s / It is                                , isn’t it?

We’re / We are                    , aren’t we?

You’re / You are                    , aren’t you?

They’re / They are                 , aren’t they?


negative:

I’m not  /I am not                    , am I?

You’re not /you aren’t           , are you?

She’s not / She isn’t               , is she?

He’s not / He isn’t                 , is he?

It’s not / It isn’t                      , is it?

We’re not / We aren’t          , are we?

You’re not / you aren’t         , are you?

They’re not / They aren’t      , are they?
